Nursing is a demanding but rewarding occupation. An ER (registered nurse) degree prepares you not only to provide care under the direction of a physician but to manage some aspects of care and the facilities in which it is being provided. There are two main paths to becoming ER and minor differences in the outcome.

education requirements

The BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) requires a four-year college degree, with the first two years focusing on the general science and the second two-year focusing on a more specific nursing curriculum. The ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) requires two years of formal coursework but generally requires one year of classes as a prerequisite. The difference between the courses is only one year. Either program qualifies the student to be licensed as an ER (registered nurse).

clinical responsibilities

There is no difference “on the floor” between the care of a BSN or ADN graduate nurse, as both are qualified to care for the patient. BSN graduates tend to fill more clinical management and administrative positions with more training in BSN programs.

continuing education

ADN graduates generally choose this path because it allows them to start work and earn an income sooner. Many of them go on to take courses leading to the completion of a BSN degree, particularly if they plan to take up an administrative position. The BSN is also a requirement for entry into a master’s or doctoral program and some highly specialised areas of clinical training.

path of your career

While ADN and BSN graduates start at the same level in clinical practice, ADN nurses tend to work in positions such as a registered nurses, case managers or charge nurses. BSN nurses have the most excellent opportunity to attain a nurse manager or director position. Many of the latter are in advanced clinical programs as a nurse, midwives or anesthesiologists.

Positions within the medical field are often confusing in how duties and responsibilities often overlap. An anaesthetist’s and an anesthesiologist’s responsibilities are similar in that they are both licensed professionals who can administer anaesthesia. However, there are also differences in positions. The most significant difference between these two professions is the level of training they have to undergo and the level of care for which they are responsible.

Job Description

Licensed registered nurse anaesthetists, or CRNAs, are registered nurses specialising in anaesthesia. They work in hospitals, clinics, and health care facilities and are licensed to administer anaesthesia. A portion of your job is performed as part of an anaesthesia team consisting of CRNA, an anesthesiologist, and assistants; however, they are authorised to work independently. Anesthesiologists are physicians or medical doctors licensed to administer anaesthesia. Their job description differs from CRNA’s because they have greater responsibilities. Due to his extensive training in science, medicine, and specifically anesthesiology, they are trained to handle the administration of any operation that requires anaesthesia. They generally advise and supervise anaesthesia operations and equipment.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a nurse anaesthetist include providing health care through the use of anaesthesia. It should be noted that they are licensed to practice and administer anaesthesia in all states of the United States. The degree to which they are authorised to practice independently varies by state. In some states, they are allowed to practice independently as long as they disclose the details of their procedures to another responsible party. In other states, they are only allowed to administer anesthesia with the consent of another licensed physician qualified to administer anaesthesia. Although it is common for an anesthesiologist to work under the supervision of an anesthesiologist, this is not the case in the United States. Anesthesiologists’ responsibilities differ from CRNA’s in their training in every aspect of anesthesiology. As physicians, they are authorised to diagnose patients and advise action. They generally have a higher charge than CRNAs. They can supervise operations as opposed to just administering anaesthesia. They are authorised to practice without the order of any other physician, a procedure that is required for most CRNAs.

Training

The training necessary to become an anesthesiologist requires years of training. They must first earn a college degree in nursing or a science-related field and pass an exam to become a registered nurse. After this, they must gain one year of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care facility. Following that year of experience, they can enrol in a specialised master’s program in anesthesiology for two or three years. After completing the program, they must pass an exam to practice as a licensed registered nurse anesthesiologist. They must complete at least seven years of training after graduating high school. The training required to become an anesthesiologist is more extensive than that of an anesthesiologist. You must complete four years of study as an undergraduate, earning a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med-related field. After this, he must attend medical school for another four years of study. Medical school is followed by another four years of residency training, 3 of which will be specifically related to the study of anesthesiology. They must pass a medical board certification to become an anesthesiologist. In total, they are required to have completed at least 12 years of training after graduating from high school. Work environment

The work environment for surgical CRNAs and anesthesiologists is often demanding. They work under many pressures that accompany medical operations. This includes being responsible for caring for patients in life or death situations. However, not all CRNAs or anesthesiologists are surgical. Some of them choose to teach or coach. Furthermore, some prefer to use their knowledge, leaning toward research and development. These environments are less demanding.
